Insights overview

Insights turn the energy data you send to Eliq into things you can show your users: charts, breakdowns, comparisons, advice and alerts. Every insight is requested per location from the Insights API.

Before you start

• Location Profile. Set the profile type (residential or business) and collect the profile questions. Most insights use the profile, and some do not work without it. See Location Profile.
• Energy data. Send consumption through the Data Management API. Each feature below lists how much it needs.
• Price formula. Needed for anything shown in cost rather than energy. See Price formula model.

Energy data

• Forecasting: daily, monthly and hourly consumption forecasts. Needs 7 days of daily data for the daily forecast, 1 month for the monthly forecast, and 1 week of hourly data for the hourly forecast.
• Peak Power & Capacity Tariffs: the highest power use per hour, day or month. Needs hourly or sub-hourly data.
• No-Meter Insights: estimated daily consumption for homes without meter data. Needs heating_type_primary and an annual consumption value. Electricity only.

Breakdown

• Energy Usage Categories: where the energy goes, such as heating, washing and cooking. Needs a profile type and 1 month of daily data.
• PV Disaggregation: estimated production and consumption for solar homes, from import and export data. Needs 7 days of hourly import and export data. Switched on by Eliq.
• Connected Device Insights: consumption per device or sub-meter. Needs each device created as a meter, with is_submeter set correctly.

Engagement

• Energy Advisor: ranked, personalised energy-saving advice. Needs a location profile and 1 month of data.
• Similar Homes: compare a home with similar homes. Residential only. Needs house_type and 1 month of data, or 1 day for daily comparisons.
• Anomaly Detection: alerts on unusual daily use and high monthly forecasts. Needs 30 days of daily data.
• Budgets: weekly and monthly budgets in energy or cost, with alerts. No history needed.
• Monthly Report: a short summary of last month, sent as a webhook event. Needs a complete previous month.

Market

• Market Prices: spot and day-ahead prices, with price alerts. Needs spot_price_region_id on the location and a Nordpool data licence. No consumption data needed.

Notifications

Anomaly Detection, Budgets, Monthly Report and Market Prices send events through Webhooks. Use them to trigger push or email notifications in your app.
